about
I read about a great American who had started a new business in his ninth decade of life. I got inspired to chronicle the moment and this song was the result. It wasn't Sumner Redstone.
Just for the record, I don't smoke rope myself. I've seen the research and I don't have the 9 IQ points to spare.
I hope you enjoy hearing it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Now that he’s done with the ladies
Willie sells weed in his eighties
The moment seemed right
His love life’s out of sight
And his grand kids are having babies
Takes a break from his songwriting studies
Willie smokes rope with his buddies
(spoken: “Merle ‘n them…)
It ain’t nothing new
He’ll light up with me or you
And stay until his thinkin’ gets muddy
Willie, you are the man
You and your great big band
We’re lucky to know ya
And it just goes to show ya
You can do what you think you can
He’s an honorary Rastafarian
A traveling social contrarian
He lives on the road
And he totes his own load
Now he’s helpin’ support the agrarians
(Spoken: “FARM AID!”) because..
Now that he’s done with the ladies
Willie sells weed in his eighties
The moment seemed right
His love life’s out of sight
And his grand kids are having babies
Willie, you are the man
You and your great big band
We’re lucky to know ya
And it just goes to show ya
You can do what you think…
